Articles containing thermoplastic material are welded together by placing a heating element between an overlapping side edges of the articles to define a weld area between the overlapping side edges with the heating element extending outwardly therebeyond, effecting relative movement between electrodes in contact with the exposed sides of the heating element and the articles while applying current to the electrodes to create a moving localized melt zone, and applying pressure to the melt zone immediately following creation of the zone to fuse the articles to each other and to the heating element.
Selon la présente invention, on soude ensemble des articles contenant des matériaux thermoplastiques en plaçant un élément chauffant entre les bords latéraux des articles se recouvrant pour définir une zone de soudage entre les bords latéraux se recouvrant, l'élément chauffant s'étendant vers l'extérieur au-delà des bords, en effectuant un mouvement relatif entre les électrodes en contact avec les côtés exposés de l'élément de chauffage et les articles tout en appliquant un courant aux électrodes pour créer une zone de fusion localisée mouvante, et en appliquant une pression sur la zone de fusion immédiatement après la création de la zone pour fusionner les articles l'un à l'autre et à l'élément de chauffage.
