ABSTRACT A resonance absorber for rail wheels comprises a spring tensile tongue clamped at one end to a base plate. The tongue is supported over only part of its length by an intermediate layer of damping material, and an additional mass is mounted on the free end of the tongue. The absorber can damp the basic frequency and the first harmonic frequency and can be tuned to dampen the fre- quencies which cause screeching noises when the wheel runs in curved tracks.
