The invention relates to the use of copolymers of racemic lactide and .epsilon.-caprolactone, .delta.-valerolactone, .gamma.-decalactone or .beta.-hydroxybutyric acid, prepared through conversion of the monomers in the molar ratio lactide to co-reactant of approximately 95-70 to 5-30 with the addition of metallic carboxylates, known per se, as initiator at temperatures of approximately 150°C for a duration of approximately 16 to 48 hours, for the topical treatment of human or animal skin.
