A respiration monitor (15) is disclosed which includes a simplified pneumatic breath detector (17), a pressure sensor (39) with the detector, and an active low pass filter (45) for filtering the output of the monitor to reduce signals not indicative of respiration, such as movement of and/or impacts upon the detector. The monitor may be linked with a transmitter (47) for remote subject monitoring, unobtrusively worn by the subject.
