A respirator comprising a respirator facepiece (1), a first sealing means (7) suitable for forming a seal on the face of a user so as to define a first cavity between the first sealing means, the respirator facepiece and an area of the use~s face comprising the eyes, mouth and nose, a second sealing means (6) suitable for forming a seal on the face of the user so as to define a second cavity, the second cavity being formed between the second sealing means (6), the first sealing means, a portion of the face of the user and optionally the respirator facepiece (1), a respirator air inlet (4) for conducting inhaling air to the first cavity, a respirator air outlet (3) for conducting exhaled air from the first cavity, and an air pressure supply means suitable for supplying pressurised air to the second cavity whereby in normal operation air is inhaled and exhaled solely through the first cavity and so substantially no air pressure differential exists between the ambient atmosphere and the second cavity which will allow ambient air to enter the second cavity.

L'invention concerne un respirateur comprenant un élément facial (1), des premiers moyens de fermeture (7) permettant de former une fermeture étanche sur le visage d'un utilisateur, de façon à définir une première cavité entre les premiers moyens de fermeture, l'élément facial du respirateur et une zone du visage de l'utilisateur comprenant les yeux, la bouche et le nez. Ledit respirateur comprend également des seconds moyens de fermeture (6) destinés à former une fermeture étanche sur le visage de l'utilisateur, de façon à définir une seconde cavité, cette dernière étant formée entre les seconds moyens de fermeture (6), les premiers moyens de fermeture, une partie du visage de l'utilisateur et éventuellement l'élément facial (1) du respirateur ; une entrée d'air (4) du respirateur destinée à diriger l'air à inhaler vers la première cavité ; une sortie d'air (3) du respirateur destinée à diriger l'air expiré de la première cavité et des moyens d'alimentation en air destinés à alimenter en air comprimé la seconde cavité. Lors de l'utilisation normale, l'air est inhalé et expiré uniquement à travers la première cavité et ainsi il n'existe sensiblement pas de pression d'air différentielle entre l'atmosphère ambiante et la seconde cavité, ce qui permet à l'air ambiant d'entrer dans la seconde cavité.
