ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Lower inhalation resistance in respirator cartridges designed for protection against aerosols is accomplished with lower production cost and improved design distributing aerosol loading over greater surface area of filter material. The respirator cartridge has a main supporting shell with spaced perforated bottom and cover portions. A succession of filter components is arranged within the shell at least one of which affords final filtering of air containing an aerosol passing through the shell. The one final filtering component is disposed adjacent the perforations of one portion and the remaining filter components constitute prefilters of which one is disposed adjacent perforations of the other portion.
