Described here are methods, devices, and kits for altering the flow of air in a respiratory cavity such as the mouth and nostrils of the nose. These methods and devices may be useful for affecting a physiologic benefit in patients suffering from a variety of medical diseases, particularly those that may benefit from "pursed-lip" breathing and non-invasive ventilation, such as COPD, heart failure, sleep apnea, and other medical disorders. The devices are typically removable devices that may be placed over or in a respiratory cavity to increase resistance to airflow within the respiratory cavity. Resistance to expiration may be selectively increased relative to inspiration. Removable oral and removable nasal devices are described. Oral and nasal devices that filter inhaled airflow of debris and allergens are also provided. A nasal device that increases patency of the nares is also provided.

L'invention concerne des procédés, dispositifs et kits permettant de modifier le flux d'air dans une cavité respiratoire du type bouche et narines. Les procédés et dispositifs en question peuvent être utiles pour apporter des bienfaits physiologiques soulageant diverses affections, particulièrement des bienfaits comme la respiration dite en <=lèvres pincées>= et la ventilation non invasive, en liaison par exemple avec la bronchopneumopathie obstructive chronique, l'insuffisance cardiaque, l'apnée du sommeil, et autres affections. Les dispositifs sont généralement amovibles, susceptibles d'être placés sur une cavité respiratoire ou dans cette cavité, l'objectif étant d'améliorer la résistance au flux d'air dans la cavité en question. On peut augmenter sélectivement la résistance à l'expiration, par rapport à l'inspiration. L'invention concerne aussi des dispositifs amovibles oraux et nasaux, et par ailleurs des dispositfs oraux et nasaux filtrant le flux d'air inhalé qui comporte des débris et des allergènes. L'invention concerne enfin un dispositif nasal augmentant la perméabilité des narines.
