A flow probe for use in a humidification system is disclosed. The flow probe is adapted to be positioned in a humidified gases flow (for example oxygen or anaesthetic gases) such as that which is provided to a patient in a hospital environment. The flow probe is designed to provide both temperature and flow rate sensing of the gases flow by incorporating two sensors (preferably thermistors) and the shape and alignment of the probe enables accurate readings by reducing the occurrence of condensation on the sensors. A number of possible applications are disclosed wherein the flow sensor is included in humidification control systems which provide a patient with a desired humidity level or simplify the amount of user input required or wherein the flow sensor provides a controller with flow information which may then be used to determine certain, possibly dangerous, conditions (such as incorrect flow sensor placement, breathing circuit disconnected, no water in the humidification chamber or humidity out of required limits).
La présente invention concerne un débitmètre pour utilisation dans un système d'humidification. Le débitmètre est adapté pour être positionné dans un débit de gaz humidifiés (par exemple l'oxygène ou les gaz d'anesthésie) comme ceux administrés à un patient dans un hôpital. Le débitmètre est conçu pour déceler la température et le débit d'écoulement des gaz en intégrant deux capteurs (préférablement des thermistances), et la forme et l'alignement du capteur permettent des lectures précises en diminuant la présence de condensation sur les capteurs. La présente porte sur de nombreuses applications possibles où le capteur de débit est inclus dans des systèmes de régulation du niveau d'humidification qui fournissent à un patient un niveau d'humidité désiré ou qui simplifient la quantité requise de commandes d'entrée de part de l'utilisateur, ou bien où le capteur de débit fournit un dispositif de commande avec des renseignements sur le débit qui peuvent ensuite être utilisés pour déterminer certaines conditions potentiellement dangereuses (comme le placement incorrect du capteur de débit, la déconnexion du circuit respiratoire, une absence d'eau dans la chambre d'humidification ou un niveau d'humidité en dehors des limites requises).
