Respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, is a cause of respiratory tract infection in humans and other animals. Replication of the virus relies in part upon the association of the nucleocapsid (N) protein with a phosphoprotein (P protein). The present invention describes the identification and sequencing of peptide fragments which bind to the P protein and which disrupt the interaction of the N and P proteins. Such peptides may be used to inhibit replication of RSV, and for treatment of patients infected with RSV. Further aspects of the invention relate to the use of such peptides in the diagnosis of RSV infection.

L'invention porte sur un virus syncytial respiratoire, ou RSV, qui est la cause de l'infection des voies respiratoires chez les humains et d'autres animaux. La réplication du virus se doit en partie à l'association de la protéine de nucléocapside (N) avec une phosphoprotéine (protéine P). L'invention porte également sur l'identification et le séquençage de fragments peptidiques se liant à la protéine P et interrompant l'interaction des protéines N et P. De tels peptides peuvent convenir à l'inhibition de la réplication du RSV et au traitement de patients infectés par le virus RSV. Fait également l'objet de cette invention l'utilisation des peptides dans le diagnostic de l'infection par RSV.
