Abstract A restraining device (10) for restraining an object against sliding on a generally horizontal surface in two directions, which restraining device (10) comprises a base member (11) for placing underneath a said object, gripping means (15) provided underneath the base member (11) for in use maintaining the restraining device (10) in position on a said surface, and blocking means (12) provided on the base member (11) for blocking a said object against sliding relative to the base member (11) in said two directions.
