A downhole screen for placement adjacent a producing formation, comprises a base pipe sufficiently strong to conduct pressurized fluid into or from the formation with at least one opening, the base pipe having an outer surface; a tubular screen surrounding the base pipe and slidably positionable over the outer surface to be mounted to the outer surface of the base pipe in a manner where the screen spans over the opening; and a valve in the opening; the valve comprising a filter disposed on the valve at a location within the base pipe to allow particles delivered into the base pipe to be retained by the filter to selectively obstruct it.
