A mouth-to-mouth resuscitator device for providing a physical barrier between a rescuer and a victim. The device comprises a flexible face shield having an opening formed therein. A tubular housing is sealed to the shield around the periphery of the opening and includes a rescuer air input end accessed from one side of the shield, and a victim air output end disposed on the opposite side of the shield. A self-closing one way valve arrangement comprising a flexible valve disc is contained in the housing to permit exhaled air under pressure to flow from the input end to the output end, and to prevent fluid back flow from the output end to the input end. A plate is secured in the housing to support the disc and provide a hinge for dividing the disc into a pair of flaps. A valve seat having a concave shape is provided to support the valve disc. The valve disc has a convex shape when the valve is closed. One flap of the disc pivots or bends outward from the valve seat in one direction and the other flap of the disc pivots or bends outward from the valve seat in the opposite direction, in response to the forced air applied at the input end by the rescuer for opening the valve and transferring the forced air to the output end; and the flaps resiliently pivot inward in opposite directions toward the input end for positioning on the valve seat to close the valve when the forced air has dissipated. The valve disc is stressed when in the closed-condition due to the valve seat blocking the valve disc from moving to its normal flat configuration. The valve disc abuts the valve seat in response to fluid back flow from the victim output end, to maintain the valve closed; and thereby blocking any fluid back flow from being transferred and discharged at the rescuer air input end. A pair of spaced apart rods are formed on the valve disc for attaching the valve disc to the support plate.
