ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for attaching non-weldable elements to a weldable base including inserting a welding gun into a tapered retainer, inserting the retainer into a tapered bore within the non-weldable material, and forming a weldable connection between the retainer and weldable base. The retainer comprises a generally cup- shaped electrically conductive weldable body, with a partially conical surface. The retainer has an upper surface to accomodate insertion of a welding gun. The lower portion of the retainer has a nose-like projection which becomes directly welded to the base during formation of the weldable connection.
