ABSTRACT A cutter tool or pick as used with a socket tool box from which it can be easily removed for replacement of the pick, has a retainer means frictionally receiveable between the cutter tool shank and the socket of a forwardly attacking tool holding meachinism. The retainer is deformable between the parallel opposite facing surfaces of the shank and the socket and embodies a corrugated elastomeric element inset into a retainer notch across a narrow side of the shank with the corrugations lying parallel to a cross-plane of the shank and with the open ends thereof facing outwards from the surface of the shank to frictionally hold the shank in the socket tool box. The retainer comprises a rectangular block of elastomeric material having a set of deep open-ended a parrellel corrugations on the side facing outwards of the notch retainer of the shank, the two opposite sides of the block which are parallel with the corrugations which incline from the surface of the block and toward each other.
