ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A retaining device is disclosed for holding a bar carrying a carbon block remnant in a machining station of cleaning apparatus. The retaining device has a holder for holding the bar, and a carrier for supporting the holder. The holder is rotatably mounted on the carrier about an axis which coincides with the longitudinal axis of the bar.
