A dry-mounted block for a retaining wall which has a solid rectangular body having side surfaces, a front and rear surface and a top and bottom surface. The top and bottom surfaces are provided with locating means for aligning other like blocks with the block so as to form a flat retaining wall face. The body of the block has an opening extending therethrough from the front surface to the rear surface for planting vegetation therein. The vegetation grows out of the opening over an exposed face of the retaining wall.
