Phase shift films produced by subjecting films made from cellulose derivatives wherein hydroxyl groups are substituted with at least one kind of aliphatic acyl groups of 5 to 20 carbon atoms at a degree of substitution of 1 to 3 to orientation. Suitable selections of the cellulose derivative to be used as the raw material enable the productions of phase shift films exhibiting various wavelength dispersion characteristics, various positive or negative birefringences, and various viewing angle characteristics, particularly achromatic phase shift films and highly birefringent phase shift films.

L'invention concerne des films à décalage de phase dont la production consiste à soumettre les films produits à partir de dérivés de cellulose, dans lesquels les groupes hydroxyle sont substitués par au moins un type de groupes acyle aliphatique de 5 à 20 atomes de carbones, à un degré de substitution de 1 à 3, selon orientation. Des sélections appropriées du dérivé de cellulose à utiliser comme matière première permettent les productions de films à décalage de phase présentant diverses caractéristiques de dispersion de longueur d'onde, diverses biréfringences positives ou négatives, et diverses caractéristiques d'angle de visualisation, en particulier des films à décalage de phase achromatique et des films à décalage de phase hautement biréfringents.
