- 1 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus is disclosed for making a reticulated sheet material from a sheet metal strip which travels through the apparatus at a substantially constant velocity. The appa- ratus includes rotary piercing means which pierces the central portion of the strip to provide slits arranged in a predetermined pattern; and plural rotary reticulating means providing simultaneously increased splay of the slits, and increased displacement of web segments out of the general plane of the central portion to form alternating rows of upwardly and downwardly directed openings. Plural rotary forming means convert the flat sheet metal strip into a channel-shaped product. A cutoff device is incorporated at the end of the line to cut the reticulated sheet product to desired lengths. In a preferred arrangement, the sheet metal strip undergoes a preforming operation which rigidifies the strip prior to piercing, and undergoes a final forming operation after reticulation. In an alternative arrangement, the strip undergoes a preforming operation after piercing but prior to reticulation, and undergoes a final forming operation - 2 - following reticulation. In a further alternative arrangement, the strip undergoes a complete forming operation after piercing and reticulation.
