Abstract The novel compounds of the formula Ret-OA I wherein Ret is the acyl residue of a retinoid carboxylic acid, A is a residue (-CHR)-CH2O)nR1, (-CH2)mSR1, (-CH2)mXR2, (-CH2)m-Het, -N(R2)2, -C(R4)2OC(O)R3, -CH2-CH(OR2)CH2OR2 or -CH(CH2OR2)2; R is hydrogen or methyl, R1 is hydrogen, C1-6-alkyl or C1-6-alkanoyl, R2 is C2-6-alkyl, R3 is C1-6-alkyl, C1-6-alkoxY, di-C1-6-alkylamino, phenyl, substituted phenyl, styryl or styryl or 2-benzoyl-phenoxy-C1-6-alkyl substituted in the phenyl residue; R4 is hydrogen, C1-6-alkyl or phenyl; X is >SO or >SO2, Het is the residue of a N-heterocyclic ring, n is a whole number of 3-40 and m is a whole number of 1-4, with the proviso that R1 is C1-6-alkyl or C1-6-alkanoyl when A is a -CH2SR1, can be used as medicaments, especially for the topical treatment of dermatological disorders. The novel compounds are obtainable e.g. by esterifying a retinoid carboxylic acid Ret-OH with an alcohol HA and, if desired, subsequently transforming reactive groups in the molecule.
