A retractable apron, intended to continually cover the well of a variable base hoist to be used for lifting together with a fixed jack vehicles of various lengths, comprises two series of articulated panels positioned on either side of the hoist at floor level in order to cover completely the opening of the well. The articulated panels are guided horizontally at the level of the opening by horizontal guides mounted on the longitudinal walls of the well and, at each end of the latter, by guides first arched and then projected downward which also serve to accommodate the excess portion of panels articulated in accordance with the relative position of the jack along the chamber. Thus, when the jack is moved horizontally in the chamber, it takes with it the two series of articulated panels, with some of the panels emerging in the chamber at one end while other panels retract within it at the other end. Consequently, the apron continually covers the opening formed by the well for all the positions of the unit in the chamber. The articulated panels fit into the guides by means of bearing axles which also provide articulation between each successive pair of panels.
Un tablier escamotable pour couvrir de façon continuelle le puits d'un vérin à empattement variable servant à élever en concert avec un vérin fixe des véhicules de différentes longueurs comprend deux séries de panneaux articulés positionnées de part et d'autre du vérin au niveau du plancher afin de recouvrir en totalité l'ouverture du puits. Les panneaux articulés sont guidés horizontalement au niveau de l'ouverture par des guides horizontaux montés sur les murs longitudinaux du puits et, à chacune des extrémités de ce dernier, par des guides arqués et ensuite projetés vers le bas servant également à accommoder l'excédent de panneaux articulés selon la position relative du vérin le long de la chambre. Ainsi, lorsque le vérin est déplacé horizontalement dans la chambre, il entraîne les deux séries de panneaux articulées, certains panneaux émergeant de la chambre à l'une de ses extrémités alors que d'autres panneaux s'escamotent dans celle-ci à son autre extrémité. Par conséquent, le tablier recouvre de façon continuelle l'ouverture pratiquée par le puits pour toutes les positions du vérin dans la chambre. Les panneaux articulés s'engagent dans les guides au moyen d'essieux porteurs qui servent également d'articulation entre chaque paire de panneaux successifs.
