The present invention shows a retractable barrier system which will close off a rectangular opening. The barrier system has a sliding bridge leading edge component which is drawn across the opening bringing a suitable barrier material from a spring-biased elongated spool containing such barrier material. A latching mechanism holds the sliding bridge in place at the opposite side of the opening.
