ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a retractable wheel grip which may be mounted to one side of a vehicle wheel to provide a plurality of arms or gripping members able to be retractably extended beyond the circumference of the wheel to engage or grip soft ground surfaces. The invention provides for the engagement of a drive member to revolve with the wheel and a lock member for normal rotation with the drive member yet said lock member being rotatable relative to the drive member, the arms are pivotally engaged with the drive member and via links to the lock member (or vice-versa) to provide for pivotal extension or retraction of the arms upon rotation of the drive member relative to the lock member. A locking means is provided for locking the drive member relative to the lock member to maintain the arms in positions between the retracted and the extended position. Provision is also made for obviating the effects of stress by binding joints of said arms and linkages with one another and with adjacent portions of the drive member and/or the lock member when the arms are in the extended position.
