A reusable oil filter for an internal combustion engine including a filter housing (300) and filter mount (202) disposed between the filter housing and the engine is disclosed herein. The filter mount includes a first plate (204), a second plate (206) removably mounted to the first plate, and an anti-drain back seal (208) disposed between the first plate and the second plate. A reusable filter cartridge (14) registers with the filter mount inside the housing for filtering the oil. The cartridge includes a first end which forms a seal with the filter mount and a second end that includes a relief valve element (16) movable between a first position inhibiting the flow of oil through the opening and a second position permitting the flow of oil through the opening when the filter is clogged. A spring (27) is disposed in the regions exterior of the filter cartridge for biasing the relief valve to the first position.
