ABSTRACT A spike connector (20) has a piercing member (26) with a reverse taper formed thereon. The region (34) with the reverse taper slidably engages a mating cylindrical connector (60). The mating connector (60) also assumes the reverse taper. The sliding interrelationship between the reverse taper region (34) of the spike connector (20) and the adjacent region of the cylindrical mating connector (60) results in relative large frictional forces that oppose separation of the two connnector members.
