A susceptor composition that can bond two or more layers or substrates to one another and that can be used to coat a cut substrate. The susceptor composition is activated in the presence of radio frequency (RF) energy. In one embodiment, the susceptor composition of the present invention comprises a susceptor and a carrier. The carrier and susceptor are blended with one another and form a mixture, preferably a uniform mixture. The susceptor is present in an amount effective to allow the susceptor composition to be heated by RF energy. In a preferred embodiment, the susceptor also functions as an adhesive. The susceptor is an ionic or polar compound and acts as either a charge-carrying or an oscillating/vibrating component of the susceptor composition. The susceptor generates thermal energy in the presence of an RF electromagnetic or electrical field (hereafter RF field). According to the present invention, the susceptor can be an inorganic salt (or its respective hydrate), such as stannous chloride (SnCl2) or lithium perchlorate (LiC1O4), or an organic salt, such as lithium acetate (LiC2H3O2). The susceptor can be a non-ferromagnetic ionic salt. The susceptor can also be a polymeric ionic compound ("ionomer") which preferably also functions as an adhesive and/or coating. Under RF power levels of about 0.5 kilowatt (kW) to 1kW, and frequencies of about 1 to 100 MHz, the susceptor composition of the present invention facilitates the bonding of single layers of polymeric materials such as polyolefins, non-polyolefins, and non-polymeric materials, as well as multilayer stacks of these materials.
L'invention concerne une composition de suscepteur pouvant lier au moins deux couches ou deux substrats l'un à l'autre et pouvant être utilisée pour revêtir ou couper un substrat. La composition de suscepteur est activée en la présence d'une énergie de radiofréquence (RF). Dans un mode de réalisation, la composition de suscepteur de la présente invention comprend un suscepteur et un support. Le support et le suscepteur sont mélangés l'un à l'autre et forment un mélange, de préférence un mélange uniforme. Le suscepteur est présent en une quantité efficace pour permettre le chauffage de la composition de suscepteur par une énergie RF. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré, le suscepteur fait également office d'adhésif. Le suscepteur est un composé ionique ou polaire et il fait office de constituant soit porteur de charge soit oscillant/vibrant de la composition de suscepteur. Le suscepteur produit une énergie thermique en présence d'un champ électromagnétique ou électrique RF (champ RF). Selon la présente invention, le suscepteur peut être un sel inorganique (ou son hydrate respectif), tel que du chlorure stanneux (SlCl¿2?) ou du perchlorate de lithium (LiClO¿4?), ou un sel organique, tel que l'acétate de lithium (LiC¿2?H¿3?O¿2?). Le suscepteur peut être un sel ionique non ferromagnétique. Le suscepteur peut aussi être un composé ionique polymère ("ionomer") faisant également office, de préférence, d'adhésif et/ou de revêtement. Sous des niveaux de puissance RF d'environ 0,5 kilowatt (kW) à 1 kW, et à des fréquences d'environ 1 à 100 MHz, la composition de suscepteur de la présente invention facilite la liaison de couches individuelles de matériaux polymères tels que des polyoléfines, des matériaux non polyoléfiniques et non polymères, ainsi que la liaison de piles multicouches de ces matériaux.
