The present invention comprises a method for reducing the viscosity of the settled mud or underflow of a raked thickener thereby reducing the torque necessary to move the rake blade through the settled mud. The method includes the step of delivering a viscosity modifier to the settled mud and in front of the rake blade by pumping the viscosity modifier down the rake arm to the area in front of the rake blade. The method also includes an improved rake mechanism that includes a means for delivering viscosity modifier to the settled mud and in front of the rake blade. The present invention also includes a method of increasing the rate of consolidation of flocculated solids in a slurry.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de réduire la viscosité du décantat ou de la sousverse d'un épaississeur à râteau, ce qui permet de réduire le couple nécessaire pour passer la lame du râteau sur le décantat. Ce procédé consiste à amener un modificateur de viscosité sur le décantat et devant la lame du râteau en faisant descendre ce modificateur de viscosité le long du bras du râteau jusqu'à une zone située devant la lame du râteau. Par ailleurs, ce procédé comprend un mécanisme de râteau amélioré pourvu d'un dispositif amenant le modificateur de viscosité jusqu'au décantat et devant la lame du râteau. L'invention concerne également un procédé permettant d'augmenter la vitesse de consolidation des floculats dans une suspension épaisse.
