ABSTRACT The growth characteristics of rhizobial bacteria, and the secretion products of fermentation thereof such as exopolysaccharides are controlled and enhanced by adjustments to the dissolved oxygen concentration in the fermentation broth, the concentration of sugar (e.g. sucrose) in the fermentation broth, the sugar:yeast extract ratio and the pH of the broth, either individually or in combinations of two or more of such features.
