Ride Strut ABSTRACT A liquid ride strut including a housing defining a bore for receiving a slidable piston attached to one end of an actuating rod. The piston divides the bore into outer and inner chambers, and an orifice arrangement, restrictively communicates the chambers. A fluid medium fills the ride strut and enables the operation of the ride strut at temperatures in the range of -60 degrees F. to 90 degrees F. The fluid medium includes a liquid that comprises a dimethyl siloxane polymer having a viscosity of 1000 centistokes at 25 degrees Centigrade mixed with a quantity of trichloroethylene, the quantity being sufficient to inhibit solidification or freezing of the liquid to a temperature of at least -60 degrees Fahrenheit. An inert gas, preferably helium, also forms part of the fluid medium, and fills a predetermined volume of the ride strut depending on the application, and is pressurized to a pressure in the range of 200 psi to 1200 psi.
