Riding garments are provided having a holder for a mobile device. The holder is mounted at a position away from the wearer's torso to lessen the risk of injury to internal organs caused by landing on a small hard device in the event of a fall. In a first embodiment the riding garment is a pair of chaps. In a second embodiment the riding garment is a pair of half chaps. In a third embodiment the riding garment is a pair of boots. In each of the foregoing embodiments, the holder for a mobile device is positioned at a location to overlay the outside wearer's leg at a position between the knee and ankle. In a fourth embodiment the riding garment is a jacket. The holder for a mobile device is positioned at a location to overlay the outside wearer's upper arm.
