ABSTRACT An apparatus is disclosed for lining up sheets of paper with punched holes, also called a ring binder mechanism, is design- ed such that a displacement of the respectively co-operating ring halves in the closed position is achieved by means of a deforma- tion using simple production engineering means, of the relevant ends of the ring halves. For this purpose it is provided that the ends of the ring halves adjacent one another in the closed position are provided with teeth extending in two different axial directions and engaging one another, whereby in each case one ring half is provided with a recess similar to a tooth space as well as a tooth-like projection extending in an axial direction deviating therefrom and the respective other ring half is provided with a correspondingly offset recess and a correspondingly offset projec- tion. Such recesses similar to a tooth space or tooth-like projections can be manufactured with simple production engineering means, in particular the ring halves can be formed in the manner indicated by means of noncutting shaping. Thus, a considerable simplification of production for the ring binder mechanism is achieved and the respective ring halves cannot be displaced against one another in the closed position.
