The present invention provides a surgical handpiece having a switch end cap detachably and rotatably connected to the handpiece body. A surgical instrument is inserted within the handpiece body so that a portion thereof extends beyond the handpiece body and is actuated to perform a surgical operation. The switch end cap includes a switch mechanism having one or more switch button members for selectively signaling the level of power to be delivered to the handpiece from a power source. According to one aspect of the present invention, the switch mechanism within the switch end cap is electrically connected to the handpiece body in such a manner that permits the switch end cap to be freely rotated about the handpiece body, while still maintaining the electrical connection therebetween. This is accomplished by having conductive finger members and complementary conductive members provide the electrical connection between the switch end cap and the handpiece body. This permits a user to position the switch end cap in a desired location relative to the handpiece body and the instrument.
La présente invention concerne une pièce à main chirurgicale munie d'un embout commutateur, l'embout étant fixé de manière amovible et rotative au corps de la pièce à main. Un instrument chirurgical est inséré dan le corps de la pièce à main de sorte qu'une partie de l'instrument fait saillie hors du corps de la pièce et est actionné pour exécuter une opération chirurgicale. L'embout commutateur comporte un mécanisme de contact muni d'un ou de plusieurs boutons pour indiquer de façon sélective le niveau de la puissance débitée à la pièce à main par une source d'alimentation. Selon un aspect de la présente invention, le mécanisme de contact dans l'embout commutateur est connecté électriquement au corps de la pièce à main de manière à permettre à l'embout commutateur de tourner librement autour du corps de la pièce à main, tout en maintenant le contact électrique entre eux. Pour ce faire, des doigts conducteurs et des éléments conducteurs complémentaires assurent le contact électrique entre l'embout commutateur et la pièce à main. L'utilisateur peut ainsi placer l'embout commutateur dans une position désirée par rapport à la pièce à main et à l'instrument.
