RING LASER GYRO FRAME DESIGN RESISTANT TO THERMAL GRADIENT EFFECTS ABSTRACT A ring laser gyro is shown which generates two or more laser beams that travel in opposing directions through gas in a ring laser conduit. The laser produces at least two bias components, one due to Langmuir flow and the second due to thermal gradients. The invention uses a symmetrically mounted restriction in the gain regions of the laser conduit to control the flow of the gas in such regions. The non-gain regions of the passages are also enlarged to reduce the effects of thermal gradients on the flow of the gas in the gain regions.
