ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE RING LASER GYROSCOPE WITH GEOMETRICALLY INDUCED BIAS An out of plane ring laser gyroscope comprises a frame and a cavity formed in the frame to form a non planar closed optical path. A gain medium produces two light beams propagating in opposite directions in the cavity. A magnetic device applies a magnetic flux density to the gain medium to allow only light of opposite circular polarizations to lase in opposite directions. The gain medium produces a clockwise beam and an anticlockwise beam that both include right and left circularly polarized components. The magnetic flux density decreases the frequency of one left circularly polarized beam and the oppositely directed right circularly polarized beam. The magnetic flux density increases the frequency the right circularly polarized beam traveling in the direction of the.decreased left circularly polarized beam and increases the frequency of the left circularly polarized traveling in the direction of the decreased right circularly polarized beam. These frequency changes are non-reciprocal. The cavity length of the ring laser is adjusted so that only onepolarization component lases in the clockwise beam and only an opposite polarization component lases in the anticlockwise beam.
