-7- ABSTRACT A river and dry land pivotal gold sluice apparatus (10) is disclosed. The apparatus (10) has an elongate main body (11) which is mountable on a stand (12). The main body (10) has a water reservoir (16) and a classifying chamber (17) with an outlet sluice (14) projecting therefrom. The classifying, chamber (17) includes a removable classifier (38). The classifying chamber (17) and outlet sluice (14) have riffles (29) and (34) respectively, which are used to capture heavy metals or gemstones which are found in gravel or claylike material (67) which is processed by the apparatus (10). The main body (10) is pivotally mounted on the stand (12) and has water flow control means, such as a one-way flap valve (12) between the reservoir (16) and classifying chamber (17) and a skirt seal (47) which is positioned on the classifier (38). The water flow control means permits water to flow through only in the direction from the reservoir (16) to the outlet sluice (14) by the pivotal motion of the main body (11). Fig. 1.
