A robotic welding torch system comprises a wire feed system for delivering wire along a flexible conduit to a contact tip in a welding gun. In particular there is provided a wire brake for mechanically arresting the positioning of a wire tip end, (as delivered by the wire feed system), in fixed relation relative to the contact tip. In accordance with the forgoing, and notwithstanding any relative movement of robotic arm elements resulting in repositioning of the contact tip, the relative positioning of the wire tip end and the contact tip remain generally unchanged.
