Freestanding modular climbing walls, used for recreational and competitive climbing, are known to have an external frame to which panels and holds are attached. This invention has the advantage of having an integral internal structure so that the climbing wall can easily and inexpensively assembled without an external support structure and can also be easily reconfigured. This invention has the potential to be used in recreational facilities such as gyms and playgrounds.
