This invention relates to a rock bolt which includes a tendon rod, a cone formation on the rod which projects outwardly from the rod with the base portion of the cone formation at a first end portion of the tendon rod, a plurality of elongated expansion shells which together at least partially surround the tendon rod with their ends towards the first end portion of the tendon rod adjacent the apex portion of the cone formation, expansible means holding the expansion shells together about the tendon rod, a washer on the tendon rod on which the ends of the expansion shells remote from the cone formation are supported with the washer including outwardly projecting deformable formations for engaging the wall of the hole in which the rock anchor is to be located in use, and means for holding the washer on the rod.
