A rod guide test apparatus, capable of holding a plurality of rods with rod guides installed, is provided. Test specimens are placed within sections of pipe that are capable of reciprocating movement with the rod and rod guide. The pipe sections are coupled to a source of fluid; such as a test fluid, and flow through the pipe is activated. The apparatus may include a heating element to provide more realistic conditions during test. The system may also be pressurized as desired. A hydraulic cylinder coupled to each pipe simulates side loading of rod guides under test. The side loading test elements are coupled to a control and instrumentation panel to accurately view the conditions to which the rod guides are subjected. A ratchet mechanism, coupled to the rods, rotates the rods and rod guides once each cycle of the reciprocating movement.
