A light scattering pattern is disposed near the focus of a curved sur- face regarded as a concave minor. Scattered light reflected by the curved surface and emitted from a planar surface is focused at a predetermined focused position. If the predetermined focused position and an image surface to be read are aligned with each other, then the scattered light from the light scattering pattern falls fully on the image surface without being wasted, so that a spatial light intensity distribution in an auxil- iary scanning direction is uniformized.
