ABSTRACT IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO A ROLL A roll has a central axial beam 1 and a surrounding roller shell 2. A pressure applying bush or shoe 14 is located on the side of the beam 1 towards the nip and is driven by at least one pressure exerting element 5 located in the space between the side of the beam 1 and the roller shell 2. Means may be provided for creating hydrostatic pressure between the bush or shoe and the roller shell.
