ABSTRACT "Improvements in or relating to a roll" A floating roll is supported on a stationary core. A pressurised hydraulic medium is located between the roll and the upper surface of the core. A load applied to the roll will cause the deflection of the core and hence rotation of the core with respect to each of the bearings located at each end of the core. A sealing system is provided which is effective despite this movement of the core, and the sealing system comprises a cap, sealed to the roll and to the core. Different embodiments of the invention employ different forms of this cap to achieve the desired sealing effect.
