A roller cleaning apparatushas a scouring head including a pad. The pad is operable to engage the periphery of the roller over a limited extent of the circumference of the roller. The pad has a scouring surface for removing contaminants from the roller. The apparatus includes a support. The scouring head is mounted to the support. The support is mounted on a hinge to permit the pad to be pivoted into and out of engagement with the roller. The support is biased to urge the pad against the roller. The apparatus may include reciprocating means operable to cause said head to oscillate axially on the roller.
