ABSTRACT Apparatus for the pressure treatment of webs of material, such as the wet section of a paper-making machine, including a damping device fixedly connected to the protruding end of the roll for damping vibrations of the roll occurring during rotation thereof. The damping device comprises a pair of annular mass rings which surround the protruding roll end and are resiliently supported within an enclosed housing which includes frictional elements bearing against the rings.
