Abstract of the Disclosure A roll for use in fabrication of coated paper as a gloss calender roll and a machine calender roll is disclosed. The roll is provided onto its surface with a sprayed coating made of a compound of tungsten carbide and cobalt or nickel-chromium alloy, in such a way that a porosity of the sprayed coating of cermet is selected less than 1.2 % and surface roughness Rmax of the sprayed coating is selected less than 1.8 µm.
