Structural steel profiles such as channels, having a material thickness greater than 2mm, are roll-formed to a preform profile with corners partial bent, in-line galvanized, and then further roll-formed to final shape. The preform profile has upwardly facing convex surfaces allowing rapid shedding of excess galvanising material. By preforming corners before galvanising, surface elongation in the galvanising layer is minimized and cracking eliminated. This is enhances by constant length bending of corners over preform and final roll-forming operations.

L'invention a trait à des profilés d'acier de construction, notamment des profilés en U (2), d'une épaisseur supérieure à 2 mm, laminés pour constituer un profilé de préforme dont les coins sont partiellement courbés, galvanisés en ligne et ensuite, à nouveau laminés pour leur donner une forme définitive. Ce profilé de préforme possède des faces convexes tournées vers le haut (3), permettant de se débarrasser rapidement de l'excès de matériau de galvanisation. En préformant les coins avant galvanisation, on réduit à son minimum l'allongement superficiel de la couche de galvanisation et l'on supprime le fendillement, ce qu'accentuent le courbement constant en longueur des coins sur une ébauche et l'exécution des opérations finales de laminage.
