ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of, and apparatus for, measuring a parameter of co-operating rolls in a mill stand, e.g. axial displacement roll wear, roll deflection, roll surface roughness etc. Measurement is effected through eddy current sensors which are mounted in close proximity to the rolls and provide an output indicative of the amount by which they are spaced from the roll surface.
