ABSTRACT Apparatus that is used to expand a collapsed hollow core of a damaged roll which includes an expandable bullet, uniformly expandable along its length by hydraulic cylinders, after being pulled into the core by means of a hollow piston ram and a drawbar. The bullet has an unexpanded cross- section of a football-like shape the area of which is about 10% less than the cross-sectional area of the hole in the undeformed core, allowing over expansion of the bullet which pulls the sides of the core in to form connect- ing chords. Add-on shells for larger cores are adaptable to the expandable base bullet.
