A divided material comprises at least a sheet of material having a length, a width including a central region, a top surface and a bottom surface. The width of the sheet of material is divided longitudinally in the central region, preferably in a predefined pattern, along the length of the material and forms first and second material members. Each of the first and second material members include a tab region, a full overlap region, and a partial overlap region located between the tab and full overlap regions. The tab regions of each of the first and second material members are disposed in the central region of the sheet of material. At least the central region of the bottom surface material includes a coating of adhesive material covered by a release layer. The divided material preferably includes a roll of material in which the top surface of the roll is coated with a media such as roofing granules. The first and second material members can be separated and applied to the surface of roof by nailing and removing the release layer covering of adhesive material on the central region of the bottom surface layers of the material. A method of manufacturing and method of installing such a material on a roof is also disclosed.
