ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention discloses a novel cutting roller for chopping continuous elongated filaments into finite fibers of a predetermined length. A plurality of spaced, axially parallel cutting blades are mounted on a driven roller drum and are held in receiving groove by retainer strips. The peripheral flange surface of the cutting roller in the opposite ends of the roller drum are raised to almost the radius of the cutting blade edges and serve as driving engagement surfaces when the rotating cutting roller is braised into contact with a feed roller. The problems of accelerated wear and deterioration of synthetic resin or rubber feed rollers of the prior art and damage to the edges of the cutting blades of the prior art devices have been successfully overcome. Also, the device of the present invention allows two rollers to revolve at exactly equal circumferential speeds which has not been successful with the device of the prior art.
