ABSTRACT A roller bearing cartridge for a roller bearing assembly of a housing having an opening for the cartridge, a lubricant fitting and a cavity communicating with the opening and also a method of making the roller bearing cartridge. The cartridge has an inner race with a pair of inner raceways and another race having two parts joined together, each having an outer arcuate surface and a raceway with a pair of rows of rollers contacting the adjacent inner and outer raceways. The outer race parts are substantially the same, each have a plurality of semi circular slots for openings, one of the openings being diametrically opposed to another of the openings with a third opening being intermediate the opposed openings so that when assembled and joined the opposed openings of the parts form a pair of circular openings diametrically opposed to one another and a third opening being spaced equally on opposite sides of one of the opposed openings. A locking pin is received in one of the circular openings for placement in the housing cavity, and one of the resultant openings in the outer race member is aligned with the housing lubrication fitting and provides for entry of lubricant when the cartridge is inserted into the housing. The arrangement provides for passage of lubricant regardless of the type of housing in which the bearing cartridge is used, which housing has lubrication fittings and cavities for locating pins in locations which differ from one another. The locating pins restrict relative rotation between the outer race and the housing but is such to provide sufficient relative rotation to permit the hearing assembly to be self-aligning to accommodate shaft misalignment relative to the housing support.
